The January transfer window is only a week of slamming shut, and clubs across the country are struggling to conclude last-minute deals.
Manchester United are set to be the most active team among the Premier League elite, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to catch a midfielder before the end of the week.
The Red Devils movement for Bruno Fernandes seems to be dead in the water after the club failed to agree on a transfer fee with Sporting, but United is watching several other midfielders, including Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish and James Maddison.
Arsenal will also seek to make full use of the loan market, while they can still get a central back for the rest of the season. The Gunners have been linked to movements for Jerome Boateng and Dayot Upamecano, among others.
Liverpool’s business seems to be over after the Reds moved early to secure a £ 7.25 million deal for Takumi Minamino. Jurgen Klopp’s team is reaching a first Premier League title this season, with strength in depth in each position.
Barca want Aubameyang – and Martinelli form might sway deal
Barcelona want to sign Arsenal’s top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Spanish giants are targeting a new frontman with Luis Suarez injured and see Aubameyang, 30, as the perfect candidate ahead of Friday night’s transfer deadline.
The Gabon marksman, currently suspended, is by far Arsenal’s top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions this season – but he has yet to sign a new deal and shows little sign of doing so.
Barca fear Arsenal would still value Aubameyang at over £50million, a price they wouldn’t be prepared to pay with under 18 months left on his contract.
The emergence of 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli, scorer of 10 goals from his 21 appearances this season, could influence the thinking of the Gunners’ hierarchy.
Man Utd ‘to give second chance’ to flop Alexis Sanchez
Manchester United are set to give on-loan forward Alexis Sanchez another chance to prove himself at the club, according to reports.
Sanchez joined Serie A club Inter Milan on a season-long loan during the summer after a nightmare 18 months at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old failed to impress for the Red Devils following his move from Arsenal in January 2018, scoring just five goals in 45 appearances.
Although he had not been expected to play for United again, The Daily Star reports that the club have made a U-turn and are now planning to welcome the Chile international back at the end of the season.
According to the publication, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has informed Sanchez and his agent that they have no intention of letting him join Inter or any other club on a permanent basis.
Real Madrid ‘to block Dani Ceballos transfer’
According to reports, Real Madrid is not interested in the idea of Dani Ceballos joining Valencia, since they do not want to strengthen a La Liga rival for the second half of the season.
Ceballos has been in Arsenal since the summer, but despite a promising start, his season was interrupted when he suffered a hamstring injury in a Europa League match against Vitoria in November.
He hasn’t played a minute since then, despite getting back in shape, and has been an unused substitute in four of the last five Gunner’s games in all competitions.
It is believed that Ceballos wants to shorten the loan and return to Spain, but according to Marca Madrid they are reluctant to allow him to join another League team, especially because Valencia could still face them in the Copa del Rey.
Tottenham and Man Utd battle for Slimani
Tottenham and Man Utd are both battling to land Islam Slimani on loan, reports RMC Sport.
The Leicester striker is currently on loan at Monaco, but could be set for a return to the Premier League.
Spurs have turned their attentions to Slimani after going cold on Krzysztof Piatek, while United view the Algerian as a decent short-term option.
