These Old Phones Will Be Cut off From WhatsApp in 2020

WhatsApp will soon stop working on millions of phones running older versions of iOS and Android, and Windows Phone entirely. According to some reports, this means that millions of users with older smartphones will no be able to run this popular messaging app.

As described by Facebook-owned company on its support page in the App’s recently updated system requirements, wherby users must have a device that running at least iOS 9 or Android 3.0 in order to use WhatsApp after February 1, 2020, claiming the move was necessary to ensure the security of its users.

WhatsApp will no longer work on any iPhone with iOS 8 or earlier, which Apple first introduced in 2014. This means that anyone with an iPhone 6 or newer series will not have to worry about losing WhatsApp.

Also all Microsoft Lumia devices while Windows Phones running the mobile operating system Windows Phone 8.1 or beyond will continue use the app. HP Elite smartphones, and virtually all Android smartphones that launched around 2010 or earlier—such as the Google Nexus One, Samsung Epic 4G, and Motorola Droid X will also be affected.

“For the best experience, we recommend you use the latest version of iOS available for your phone,” WhatsApp said in a blog post.

What you need to do??

If you have the feeling that your phone will be affected you can try update your smartphone’s operating system, so as to meet the new WhatsApp requirements. It may also be worth looking for WhatsApp alternatives. We cannot guarantee that they will support your super old smartphone.

Because this is not the first time WhatsApp has ended support for older phones and has previously described it as a “tough decision” to cut off users for the sake of safety and functionality.
